Camping

Over Spring Break, we went camping. This was a huge feat for us since we haven't been camping since our infamous 2009 trip. That trip was the WORST trip ever. Kids crying through the night and wouldn't stop, running after two little boys going in every direction, no swimming allowed because they were too little...it was horrible. So, since that trip, we decided that we were not going camping again until they were older.

While planning this trip, we decided to do ONE night. We didn't want to make the same mistake that we did last time. We went early the first day so we could have a full day. We set up camp, went on a light hike, walked around, found bugs and explored. We ate lunch and that night enjoyed beans, hot dogs, hot chocolate and smores. It was all messy and the boys were filthy. I couldn't believe how dirty the got. Then came the night...

It was horrible. We had a hard time putting the kids to bed. They didn't want to be alone in the tent. But we wanted to enjoy the fire alone. Ugh. After we got them all asleep, Fred and I were outside by the fire and we heard growling. Then Asher immitaed the growl in the tent. That's when we both knew that we both heard it and it was not our immaginations.

(Side note: We went to Blue Jay Campground in San Juan Capistrano. It's wayyyy up in the mountains. And the animals we were to look out for around these parts were mountain lions and rattlesnakes...)

So, I'm guessing we heard a mountain lion growl. HOLY CRAP! We ran inside the tent and covered up our babies. We were all sleeping on the floor and that was just miserable. We both slept like 2 hours the whole night. I kept hearing things and was scared. The next morning we ate donuts, packed up camp, walked around again and then left.

So, even though it was beautiful up there and quiet (there was like no other campers around!) we probably won't be going back. And we're bringing our blow up mattress next time.

We've decided that next time we go somewhere camping, we're sticking to one nighters until they are older... live and learn.
