1st Day of School

Oh boy. This is a little overdue. The boys started school on September 9th and the month is almost over with!

A few days before school started, we checked to see who was in their classes. Originally, Caleb was an Early Bird but knew he would do better as a Late Owl and get more one on one with the teacher that way, so I switched him. It was an adjustment. I also switched him because I knew a boy that was going to be in his class who is an Early Bird and he isn't a good example for Caleb (and their friends through their older brothers) so I made sure he didn't spend all of class time with him.

Luckily, Ethan had some friends in his class (Jake and Jack)  so I'm sure that made things easier for him. The first little while, he was missing Kindergarten. I think he missed how things are run, the play time, it's a little more relaxed...1st grade is REAL school. I don't think he was prepared for that. They both still wake up saying they hate school and don't want to go. *sigh* I have a feeling their really going to hate it once homework starts.

Ethan got Mrs. Smith. She's an older lady with red hair. Seems really nice. Caleb got Mrs. Werthmuller which was no surprise. They both are doing well. The second day Caleb didn't get a gold star. Meaning, he didn't have great behavior or a good day. So, that night he wasn't allowed to watch TV and he was talked to. I told him that behavior is unacceptable and he is expected to come home with a star everyday. I told him that he is a good boy that makes great choices so I need to see that at school all the time. He hasn't come home without one since. He even is ignoring friends who try to talk to him while the teacher is talking. I guess he just had to learn the lesson and know that that isn't going to be allowed. But, overall, I'm pleased with Caleb's progress because I've been nervous putting him in this year since he is barley 5.

The first week of school was rough. Especially because we weren't used to waking up early, and then Fred left mid week and has been gone since. We're on week 3 of him being gone. It's been hard on all of us. They are slowly getting used to the new routine and I know they really do love school.

I could go without the double drop off and double pick up but that's a sacrifice I knew I was going to have to make. The things we do for our little ones...

First lunch. With a little note to tell them I love them.

Both Darth Vader lunch boxes
