I have been dying to paint the kids bookshelf for ages. But there were a few problems. One, I didn't want to buy paint. It's expensive. Two, I needed to find the time I could actually do it. Three, I didn't know what color to do. My friend had a can of bright red/orange paint and she said I could use it. So, I thought, if it's too bright, I'll just stain it to tone it down. Superbowl weekend was coming up and I thought it was the perfect time.
The bookshelf was mine when I was little. I love that they have something of mine from when I was young. But as much as I love it, I couldn't take the dated, oak ugliness of it. It needed to be helped. So, the kids helped (while I had anxiety attacks) and we all primed it (2 coats), painted it (2 coats) and I glazed it. I really love redoing furniture but hate how long it takes for paint to dry. UGH! But I'm so happy it's done!! I love the way it looks in their room.
I also cut pictures out of a few old Star Wars books I found at the Library book store ages ago and framed pictures of R2D2 and C3PO. Then we got them Angry Bird piggy banks. I LOVE it!
To keep with our Star Wars/Angry Bird theme (their beds are all Angry Bird Star Wars) I cut out another picture of Darth Vader and Boba Fett. That one I hung on the wall and cut different pieces of the book out. It has his bio with his picture and name. Then I used the Star Wars book as an accent piece too.
This was a whole different project I wasn't planning on. So, I printed tons of pictures to replace all our frames. But, I didn't account for matting. None of my pictures had it from last time. So, when I came back home, I realized I had ALL the wrong sizes. I checked into matting and realized it cost an arm and a leg so scratched that idea. But I didn't just want plain white around the pictures. So, I used scrapbook paper. I tried to find ones that would kinda go together or just look nice. I actually love the way they turned out. The ones in my family room just have white behind them but they look nice. Then I had to go back to Costco to print 2 at full size because I bought new frames and I they needed to be full scale. Anyway, our house is much more colorful and looks warm and cozy with my cute babes pictures all around!
