A little while ago, Caleb lost his first tooth. But not in the typical way that kids lose their first tooth. This was his pirate molar that was pulled out by the dentist.
About 6 months ago, we spotted this bubble type thing on Caleb's gums by his big molar in the back. We went to the dentist to have her take a look at it. She gave us 3 options: leave it alone, drain it or pull the tooth. The x-rays showed that the tooth was healthy and so we opted for draining it. It worked a little but not completely. I went to my personal dentist with Caleb to get a second opinion on what to do next. He said it would be best to take out the tooth. The tooth ended up being infected from the gums so it was a good choice to pull it.
With much discomfort in knowing he was getting a molar pulled, we decided it's what we needed to do. I didn't tell him that was happening- just that they were fixing his bubble. It took about an hour and a half and I heard some whining. I felt so bad. He's been through so much. He cried a little but I felt good knowing he was as comfortable as he could be. Once he saw his huge tooth, he was so proud. We got ice cream, pain medicine and antibiotics and he was good to go.
He wrote a letter to the tooth fairy explaining how he wanted to keep his tooth and she wrote back saying he could keep only this 1st one. She also have him $5 because it was a pirate tooth, his first one and he was so brave. He went to school the next day and showed everyone his big tooth. I guess it's true when they say mom's worry more about their kids than needed. He is such a trooper and so brave.
