On December 20th, Macie turned 1 month old. How does it go by so fast?! I hate that it goes by so quickly. She is such a joy in our home we never knew we were missing. She has brought so much love into my heart I didn't know I had space for. I can't ever imagine my life without her. I always knew we were to have one more after Asher but didn't know the changes that would take place in my heart once she was here. It's so true what everyone says about having a little girl. With girls, it's just different. When I look at her, I think about helping her figure out the ins and outs of make up, dress shopping, maneuvering her way through life with boys, marriage, kids of her own... all the special bonds you have only with a daughter and mother. And I get to be a part of that now. It's unbelievable. I love my boys and they are just as dear to me but Macie is a girl like me who can only understand certain things by being my same gender. I can already tell I really do have a different bond with her than with my boys. And that's okay. I waited a long time for her and she was worth every second of waiting.
Macie is now sleeping in 2-4 hour stretches. She hates getting baths, doesn't like when we change her clothes or diaper, and always wants to be held and snuggled. She does pretty well in the car and usually if she wakes up crying, she'll eventually stop and go back to sleep. She mostly wakes up when the car stops. Ethan is a big help with giving her a pacifier or bottle if needed while driving.
She is now nursing exclusively and does very well. Her latch is great and she not 'snacking' as much but rather nursing and going a couple hours without. She is awake for longer periods in between as well. Her newborn clothes are getting a little snug as well as her newborn diapers which makes me sad. In her first month, Asher managed to accidentally burn her face with a 2nd degree burn. It's just now fading to an almost barely see phase at 5.5 weeks (yes, I'm behind in the update.) I cried and cried when I saw how red it got and the blisters that came. They popped and oozed and were horrible. Asher felt so bad and I couldn't get mad at him. He was trying to show his top ramen to his baby sister and share. The broth just happened to spill onto her burp cloth and she was tummy down so some seeped to her face. I'm just glad it's fading daily. It was traumatic. She is also now taking a pacifier a little better than before. She turned 1 month on Christmas Sunday so we took pictures in her Christmas outfit.
