Ethan in Joseph and The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat

Ethan auditioned for our local community theatre. The play they were/are doing is Joseph and The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. It's been one busy ride learning the ins and outs of the community theatre. It isn't run very well at all. Ethan went in to audition and everyone there was a returning member and so they just started and didn't review anything so Ethan was a bit lost.

He got the part of A Hairy Ismaelite and Chorus Member. For a long time, we just sat at practices, waiting around. And they were long practices. I guess this play they condensed into 2 weeks unlike their usual 3 week schedule. We were there Mon-Thurs from about 5-9:45pm. After talking to our family friend, Mrs. Werthmuller (who ended up being a life saver and my go-to for explanations), we were able to figure out more when Ethan was to be on stage. Before he was getting pretty bummed about it all thinking he was not the play that much. Turns out, he's pretty much on stage the whole time but no one ever directed the chorus and told them what to do! So, pretty much Ethan learned the whole thing during the 'run-thru's which was frustrating because we wasted a lot of time doing nothing because no one told us what to do. Our friend, Mrs. Werthmuller finally spoke for us and said that chorus don't know what to do since they aren't being directed. It also has taken up a lot of time and energy for both Fred and I. We've had to coordinate dropping off and pick up times and not having family dinners together.

This playhouse is quite busy and like I said, not directed very well at all. Nevertheless, Ethan is now enjoying it and just finished his first performance. He did FANTASTIC!! He is such a natural up there and I am SO proud of him. He really gets into it and looks like he's having so much fun. These are pictures I've taken from the Facebook group for the play. They've had people come to take pictures and they turned out great.

Fred's parents saw his first show with me and for his next show he will have his friends Mikey Hill and Blake Basalla and their moms to watch him. My parents will also be attending. He is enjoying having people come to watch him. I told him since it's so time consuming, we'd probably need to stick with doing the plays during Summer. Although, Scrooge is coming up for Christmas so if he wants to do that, then we'll see how it all goes and what the rehearsals look like.
