Awhile ago, my parents asked if they could take our kids for a week in the Summer. They usually have taken the boys for about 4 days every Summer but this time they wanted to have all 4 kids come for a week. Of course we said yes! This presented us with an opportunity for Fred and I to do something! He was able to get the week off and we found a great Costco Travel package to the Riviera Maya so off we were. We had been to Cabo but not to the side of Mexico that borders the Caribbean Sea so we were pretty excited. The flight was about 5 hours. The first full day we hung out at the resort. We swam and relaxed and enjoyed our surroundings.
The next day we went to a sort of theme park called Xcaret. I had heard a lot of great things about this place and its a big hot spot. It's build around natural rivers, sink holes, forest etc. Our day spent there ended up being our most favorite day. We didn't even get to see half of the park, it is HUGE! We first swam in an underground river. It took about 45 mins! It started to get a little cold for me but I'm also a huge wimp when it comes to hot and cold. But it was beautiful! It leads into the ocean and is all natural. After we did a little snorkeling in their lagoon. There wasn't a ton of fish since there were so many people in such a small(er) space but we did see some given the circumstances. Then we saw the sea turtles. One of my favorite things we did. I teared up seeing my favorite animal. They were so close to us! They had the biggest sea turtles I've ever seen. They also had little tanks filled with baby ones! I was in heaven and could have stayed there for hours. We walked around some more, viewing some animals they had as well as some waterfalls, cenotes, and architecture. Then we went on a river boat ride. It was so quiet and peaceful. The day ended with us viewing their big show. It is a history of Mexico and it was amazing. I teared up watching that too. We upgraded and bought the 6 course dinner while watching the show so we had great seats and great food. It was a really fun day and I've never done anything like it!
Our 3rd full day, we hung around the resort and went snorkeling! We saw 2 huge lobsters, a giant crab and a conch shell! Our guide was really great. Right in front of where we were staying is the Puerto Morales Reef which is the 2nd largest reef in the world. Knowing that, we knew we had to go snorkeling and check it out! The reef was amazing with big fish and tiny fish. I'm glad we snorkeled!
The 4th day we were feeling a little worn out. We had been go-go-go for a few days. So we kept it simple. We hung out at the pool and went parasailing. We did parasailing in Catalina Island once and it was cold. It was pretty and cool but cold. So, we wanted to give it another shot and do it here. It was great. The time goes by so fast when you're up there! You feel like a bird and its so quiet and peaceful up in the sky. I took some photos and video and it was truly so beautiful. The water was clear and warm. My kind of parasailing!
We had to get up really early since our flight home was at 8:30am but it ended up being great. We were home at LAX by 11:30am. We went to my parents, got the kids and then were all together again that evening. It was a great trip but we really missed the kids. We couldn't text or call them so I was really missing them. It was good to be home again.
