Back in December, I bought Fred tickets to go see Les Miserables in June for Christmas. I didn't think about it all too well because we were right in the middle of our homes each when it was time to go see the show. We literally went from home looking to driving to Pantages, changing in the car and watching the show. We were SO tired. Seeing the show is very different than seeing the movie and reading the book is VASTLY different than seeing the show or movie (in Fred's eyes). It was enjoyable but felt a bit rushed at the same time.
When I was in 6th grade, my teacher Mrs. Kelly, showed us the broadway recording of Les Mis on VHS. I didn't fully understand the story at the time but what I clearly remember is the music. I couldn't get enough of it. From then on, musicals have been a part of my life. It's been 20 years now since I was first introduced to this play as I sat at my desk, totally enthralled. And that night, I thought of Mrs. Kelly. Because of her, my love of musicals was born and I just felt very grateful. She recently passed away so it felt even more sweet thinking of her that night. I'm so glad I got to see this show and come full circle. I bet she would have been happy knowing the influence she had on me. I certainly won't forget.
It was a nice night together. As tired as we were, it was so much fun.
