Caleb got stung by a bee. It was right before his soccer game started. They were getting checked out by the refs and about to start the game. Caleb thought it was a fly and went to shoo it away but it was indeed a bee and it stung him on his hand. I felt so bad. My dad showed up right as we were leaving to go. Caleb really wanted to stay and play too.
I told him we couldn't stay. I gave Caleb some Benadryl right when we got home and not long after had to give him his epi-pen because he was breaking out in hives. We got to use our new Auvi-Q for the first time! That thing is awesome! It gives step by step instruction and its so much more gentle than the other epi-pen. It even does a countdown to when you can release the needle. It's pretty cool.
He still wasn't getting better so I decided we needed to take him to the hospital. He got an IV for the first time which he absolutely hated. HATED. He was crying in pain pretty much the whole time it was in. They gave him a steroid, more Benadryl, more epinephrine and saline solution. When you administer an epi-pen you're always suppose to go to the hospital. We've gotten away with it with Asher but since Caleb is so allergic to bees, we just have to go.
We were there for about 3 hours. It was a long 3 hours. But after, he was so much better and almost back to being 100%. Administering the medication through IV makes such a huge difference. He was so brave and I'm proud of him. It certainly isn't fun with this happens but at least were prepared.
