With Ethan in Band, I quickly learned about Rampage. It's the Band competition Hart High hosts every year. Over 30 schools come and it's an all day event. It's the biggest competition in So. CA! Somehow, I got roped into being the Judge's Booth Chair. They were asking parents to sign up and be Chairs for different areas within Rampage. I was told Judge's Booth was the easiest. It may be but the job itself is not easy. I was months of prep. I had to order custom made gifts for the 9 judges and the announcer, I had to get the bins from the Rampage shed, clean out the bins, shop for what was needed for this years Rampage, type up the menus for the judges, create the seating chart for all 34 high schools that were attending and that was just the beginning.
On the actual day of Rampage, I had to be there at 5:00am with donuts in hand. I had limited help in the morning and while I was trying to get things done, I tripped and fell. My middle finger immediately swelled up and was throbbing. It didn't stop the whole day. I learned days later that I actually broke it!!
I served the judges all day. It was exhausting and I finally left at 11pm. It was so much work and by the time I left, I couldn't feel my legs and feet. The best part of the day was watching Ethan perform from the roof of the stadium.
I'm pretty sure I won't be doing this again but it was overall a great learning opportunity and I enjoyed watching every single band. Ethan was very grateful for all the time and effort I put into the day. That's what it's all about.
