Every year, my kids are terrified of Santa. They refuse to sit on his lap. All 3 of them. So, we took a family picture with him while the boys stood next to him and told him what they wanted. Maybe one day they will actually sit on his lap.
One of the many perks of being mormon is that every year at the ward Christmas party, no matter where you go, there is a Santa and you can take pictures and see him for FREE! That's my kind of visit. I've never done the whole mall route. I'm perfectly happy with the ward Christmas party option.
Also, we didn't have to wait in a huge line. It's funny because the older boys know it isn't the real Santa. They've asked us before about the whole multiple Santa's around town and they all look different kind of thing. So, we've told them that Santa sends Santa helpers to look like him so they can report back to him with what all the kids want for Christmas. So, visiting Santa isn't all it's cracked up to be around here. But they still enjoy it and believe which is what I care most about right now!
