1st Grade Romance

Ethan has had a few girls he has been fond of since he started Primary. First there was Emma, our neighbor, then it was Ellie who's in his class at school (they still are very good friends and always sit together) but most recently he has taken quite a liking to Giovanna in his 1st grade class.

She is so petite, long dark brown hair and a very soft spoken girl. She is a doll. Her mom is so nice too.

I took Ethan to Target to pick out a toy because he got money from his birthday. So, as his other brothers picked out toys (with leftover Christmas money), Ethan spotted this little dog holding a heart and said, "I just want to get this. I want to buy it for my friend at school." I immediately thought, 'A girl?! but actually said, "Oh, really? What friend?"

"Giovanna," he said. "She's just a nice girl in my class that I sometimes talk to at lunch but only at lunch because talking in class is illegal." It was adorable. I said, "Okay, I think she will really like that."

Then he came home to make her a book. He's into making books for himself and others. He's up to book #16 I believe. Then we packaged it all up and he wrote 'to' and 'from' on a little tag. The next morning he said he didn't want to give her the dog because he wanted to keep it. I think he was a little embarrassed about giving it to her but I convinced him that she will love it and we could get him his own dog if he wanted.

At school he put the bag next to her and walked away saying nothing and just watched. Then he went back again and told the girl next to her that the bag was for Giovanna. Then her friend gave her the bag. Giovanna then put it in her back pack and that was that.

The next day he got a card from Giovanna. It said, "Thank for my gift. You are such a nice friend." with a gift card to Golden Spoon in it. Her mom said she loved the dog and immediately wanted to get something for Ethan. She also said some kids were singing the "Ethan and Giovanna sitting in a tree..." song but she just said that they were friends and they should all act like big boys and girls.

From what I hear, they always call on each other in class and they hug a lot. I think it's so cute and I'm proud of him for giving her the dog. Ethan is such a sweet boy and really has a gentle heart. He knows you only give kisses to Mom and Dad (and grandparents) and you don't kiss anyone else until you're older, almost married. ;) I love watching this little friendship. It really is so cute.
