A few days ago I had my first baby shower. I'm having another one in October. This one was for family and church friends. Kjersten Johnson (former VT) and Paula Clater (VT) hosted it at Kjersten's house. It was really beautiful and so nice of them. Paula did all the food and Kjersten did the decorations.
We had brownies, cheesecake, soda/ice cream punch, croissant sandwiches, fruit, veggies with dip and salad. There were fresh pink flowers everywhere with a cute 'baby shower' banner over the fireplace. The take home favors were little candles that said 'Thank You.' Emily made the invitations and I invited about 60 people total. My mom, Lindsey (my sister) and Debbie (Lindsey's mother in law), my Aunt Lily (from Utah) and cousin Shawn (from Utah) were the only family that came. All of Fred's family had other commitments. Greg's mom, Kathy Hilton, came and I was so happy to see her. The rest were from my ward. We had about maybe 20 people total. It was a small group but we received many nice gifts.
My family chipped in and got me my stroller and car seat. Jen and Travis bought me a very nice eating chair that goes on your kitchen chair. It swivels and reclines. They also got me some clothes. They were very generous. I got some clothes, lots of blankets and swaddling blankets. Grandma Allen sent me $50. I got a gift card too. Fred's Aunt Kelly sent me a sweet dress, socks and a blessing bracelet. since she couldn't come. I still have more to buy depending on what I get from my other shower (essentials) and need to return some doubles of things I got. I was really thankful that my family came down to be there. It meant a lot to me especially because all of Fred's family didn't and couldn't come.
I'm excited for my next shower which will be for my friends from the kids' school. I'm feeling very blessed with all that we have received thus far. It was so fun to have a shower for a little girl for a change. It's still hard to imagine that we really are having a girl soon. Girl clothes are so cute and fun. I hope I can get some more cute outfits to play dress up with.
As I said before, Emily made the invitations. She also mailed me a package that was filled with toys, clothes, homemade hair bows and head bands, a cute gnome for the room, homemade cookies and a homemade blanket. I was on the phone with her while I opened them all. I was so excited. She is such a good friend and I love her more than I could ever say. She had said she would have hosted my shower if she had been here but instead did all she could while being far away. I love her so much.
