Everyone was so excited for Christmas Kickoff and Asher didn't know why they had school. He said, "Don't they know its a holiday today? It's Christmas Kickoff!" I told him it isn't a holiday everyone celebrates, only us. It was so cute. I love how excited they get and it makes the start to the Christmas season so fun.
Theis year I decided I was tired of putting up decorations that I got from others, hand me downs from my parents and things that just felt like a giant hodge lodge. So, I donated pretty much everything I had and went to a few stores to pick out decorations that I like and wanted...things that were my style and I am pretty pleased with how it all looks. There nativity didn't come with the trees, reindeer or angel. The angel is from a different set but I think it goes really well with it all and I love that it's browns, golds and creams. Just what I wanted. I kept the Santa since Fred's Grandma Ginny made it and it has sentimental value. I bought the plate and drink bottle, the green tree and basket for our books. I also got the new table runner, tree skirt, pillows, garland and Merry Christmas sign. I think it feels rustic and a more farmhouse feel which is what I like. I love the pillows. I added to the new garland and I think it turned out so pretty. I had small name tags for the stockings but they felt small and I wanted something more bold and cohesive. I bought these white wooden letters, spray painted them silver and then distressed them. I love how they turned out and think it looks so nice. It finally feels like we're getting to have our own stuff and feels like us and what we like. No more hand me downs or random stuff. I love it.
Anyway, everyone had fun setting up the tree and looking at all our ornaments. I love how excited they get when they find one that is theirs. We ate, decorated, make gingerbread houses and watched How the Grinch Stole Christmas. After, we read "The Tale of The Three Trees" which is about Christ. We talked about what Christmas is really about and the importance of the birth of the Savior.
Such a fun night and our house looks so nice!
