Last week, Ethan was gone at OSS (Outdoor Science School). On Monday morning, we dropped off all his stuff and said goodbye and he was off! He was so excited. There were some kids who were crying and a bunch of parents crying. Neither Ethan nor I cried whatsoever. We were both just excited. It also helps that he's been away from me longer than 5 days and at a distance farther away then a place near Big Bear. We left the country to go to Mexico and left our kids so this was no big deal. I'm proud of him for being so cool with it. I want him to start to be more independent and go off to learn and grow. It's good for them! I made a big scene saying goodbye which he just laughed at. i was yelling things like, 'Be brave!, You got this!, I love you!'
He was off and then we had a week with no Ethan. He wrote to us a couple times and I wrote to him. I also left him notes to read everyday since we couldn't take during the week or FaceTime. We had no communication other than writing letters which was fun!
Macie and I picked him up on Friday and he was excited to see us. He was a tiny bit sad to leave camp but was really excited to be home. He's a natural homebody. Macie missed him so much and gave him so many hugs and kisses which was so sweet. Tons of parents had balloons, flowers and posters for their kids which I thought was so stupid. They are coming back from science camp! It's not like they were off at war! It was ridiculous. And on top of that, all these parents were crying. I just laughed. Ethan got off the bus, we all hugged and grabbed his stuff and left. Easy peasy.
It was interesting to only have Ethan be away for a while. Caleb really did enjoy being the oldest kid in the house. Asher slept in Ethan's bed for the week. I think Caleb really liked that and didn't want to be alone in his room. But we did miss our Stinky Linky. I'm so glad he had a blast!
