Yosemite & Bass Lake Vacation: Day 1 & 2

We went to Yosemite National Park and Bass Lake for our family vacation this Summer. We were all really excited about going. We booked pretty close to when we were leaving so our accommodations were pretty lousy but besides that, we had a great time.

Day 1 was settling into our room and walking around some shops. We ate dinner and went to the local ice cream store, Reimers.

Day 2 was our first full day. We left our hotel early to drive down into Yosemite. We quickly realized it is a bit far from where we were staying. Our first stop was 'Tunnel View' where you can see a lot of the valley after coming through a giant tunnel. It was beautiful. We climbed up the rock next to the stop and got some wiggles out. After that, we drove to Bridalveil Falls. It is an easy walk to the actual Falls lookout but you can continue on if you'd like, climbing up the giant rocks and boulders to the waterfall itself. I stayed back with Macie and Fred took the boys all the way up to the waterfall. It was pretty impressive and they were high up there. The little specs on the pictures of the waterfall are actually Fred and the kids! After that, we drove around a little bit ending up at Half Dome Village. We saw a doe walking in a meadow and across the street! It wasn't really afraid of us either! It was beautiful. We stopped for lunch and tried to go tubing down the river but found out Macie wasn't big enough. Big surprise. After that, we headed towards these little 'lakes' that I heard were fun. However, on the way, we came across a giant river (part of the Merced River) and decided to just stop there and play. We were all not up for more hiking and walking around. It was really hot and we were all tired. The river was freezing but ended up stayed there for hours. Macie was getting over it so I took her up the Vernal Falls trails that was right next to where we all were. It was steep and I was unprepared to do the whole thing. I didn't have her in the hiking backpack and I also didn't have water so we ended up not doing the whole thing which I'm bummed about. But after we came back, we all packed up and drove back to Oakhurst (where we were staying). We were all really tired but had a really fun day.
