Day 3 was a more slow paced day. We had tickets to ride the Yosemite Mountain SugarPine Railroad and after planned on meeting up with our friends for dinner. It was really cool to be on an old steam engine and ride though the mountains. We also panned for gold. Unlike other times we've done with, our instructor was really informative and educated the kids on gold. He fully explained step by step how to get gold off and out of rocks. Fred and I even learned some new things. The kids really had to work to get the gold out of those rocks. They ended up with about $4 each in gold. Not bad!
Later that day, we met up with Nate and Angela Guin. They are long time friends of Fred's who he went to HS with. Since then, they have become my friends too. It was extra special to spend time with them since it was Greg's birthday and they were close friends with Greg too. I think Fred really enjoyed that. We ate dinner on the lake and took some pictures of all of us holding signs that said Happy Birthday, Greg and other things. Greg's mom, Kathy, had sent me pictures of Greg when he was little at Bass Lake. He would go there every Summer growing up. We surprised Fred with the posters earlier that day and let him know that Kathy also sent me Greg's ashes for Fred to spread in the lake. But for this particular day, we just held the signs up and took some pictures with our friends. We then got ice cream!
