Ethan's First Youth Fireside

Ethan and I had opportunity to go to youth fireside. I washable to come because I am 1st counselor in the YW presidency. Elder Ballard, who is the President of the 12 Apostles, came to speak at the Laguna Nigel Stake Center. It was a really great evening. It was far more casual than anything that happens in General Conference. He spoke a lot about desires. Here are some of the notes I took from the evening:

-You really don't know what lies ahead for your life. You have no idea what God has in store for you.
-The key to our success in this life: DESIRES. Desires to know the mysteries of God.
-2 Nephi 2:16 is Nephi's sacred grove experience.
-You live in a time that has a lot of noise and clutter. What do you desire more? Desires of the clutter or of God?
-You have to constantly keep a desire to know the mysteries of God.
-Carve out time everyday to get to know God
-Pray every morning and night. Check in with him. It helps kindle the desire to know more about His church. If you ever lose your understanding of your divinity, you're lost the capacity to have the desire to know God.
-You're in your infancy of your learning experience.
-You should always nurture the eternal you. Your spirit.
-Even with Christ's resurrection, the dead will see Christ and some may still not follow Him because they won't have the desire. Your desire is everything!
-Build your own homes and families to have a desire to know God.
-Live your lives now, the best you can. It'll prepare you for what's in store.
-Your true identity is that you are a son/daughter of God, the Eternal Father. Nourish your true identity by studying the scriptures.
-Have a good time in this life. Have fun! But not crazy fun.
-Any substances that you shouldn't partake in will dull your spirit.
-When you focus on nourishing your Spirit, you will be prepared for anything that will come.
-Find some quiet time everyday to just be quiet and think about your life. Shut off the world and be still. In quiet moments, we can connect to our Heavenly Father. The Holy Ghost will talk to you.
-Once a month, interview yourself. Self, how am I? How can I be a little better? No one can interview you like yourself.
-Don't neglect the education of your spirit which is the only thing that is eternal.
-Don't live to please others. Live to please yourself.
-Stay in the boat. Hold on with both hands and wear your life jacket. In other words, stay on the covenant path.
