Last Day of School/Caleb's Bee Sting

My oh my how is this school year already over?! How is Caleb going to be starting 2nd grade? And Ethan starting 3rd? Madness. I feel like once your child enters school it all goes by so much faster. It makes me sad. Last day's of school make me sad. Because I know they are now that much older. Sigh...

This is Ethan with his friend, Samuel Rucker. That's their teachers son.

Caleb and his friend, Lance. Personally, I never liked this kid. He's annoying. Caleb kinda thinks so too and has played with him less and less throughout the school year.

Ok- so here's where the day got really interesting...

After school we went to our friends pool party. An end of school year party of sorts. About 30 minutes into arriving, Caleb comes up to me crying saying he got stung by a bee. I wasn't too worried about it because I thought he'd been stung before many a time (I later realized that Asher was the one who'd been stung a lot- not Caleb). So, we give him some ice and lavender to help with the pain. His finger was super swollen. A few minutes after, he starts to get a rash and bumps all over him. Then his lips start to swell and he says it hurts to swallow and his throat hurts. So, we give him some Benadryl and have him sit on my lap to see if that helps. Within 3 minutes of him sitting on my lap, he throws up 4 times on me. I try not to freak out and gag and we start to clean him up. His rash, lips finger etc are all getting worse by the minute. So, I decide I need to take him to the doctor. My mom friends offer to watch the other boys while I go with Caleb. Thank heavens they were there to help me.

I take Caleb to the pediatrician because it was closest and didn't know where urgent care was. Immediately they evaluate him and give him an Epi pen in his leg. It took the nurse, doctor and myself to hold him down. He was SCREAMING. That's when I started to cry. I kept it together until then but watching him be so scared, in so much pain... I just cried. After a few minutes, I got myself to stop and focus. They informed me I had to take him to the ER ASAP so they could observe him, give him another Epi pen if needed etc.

Mind you, this whole time, I am in my swimsuit with a semi see through cover up and Caleb is in his swim trunks- no shirt. We're also both semi wet from the pool. I also had some left over vomit on myself. Once we got there, got anti vomiting medication, then we waited 15 minutes. Then he had to have steroids. Then he had to have Benadryl- he was knocked out within 10 minutes of all that. By then he had a fever and he was BRIGHT RED head to toe. The swelling in his lips had gone down a little and it was easier to breathe. Fred met me at the ER so I could go home, change, and see to the other boys. After about 2 hours total, Caleb was home.

According to the hospital, Caleb is severely allergic to bee stings and I now have to carry an Epi pen with me at all times. Also, if ever he is stung again, we STILL have to go to the ER even after he gets his epic pen because he's so severly allergic. He will need steroids etc every time.

I'm just thankful that he's okay and now we know and what to do in case this happens again.
